A printer is a device that accepts data from a computer and prints it on a sheet of paper. It is one of the most common computer peripherals. There are two types of printers: 2D and 3D. 2D printers are used to print text and graphics on a paper, while 3D printers can create physical objects.
Computer printers are available in several sizes and types. Some are small enough to fit in a desk drawer, while others are large and require a special mounting stand. The printer can be connected to a computer via a cable or wirelessly. A USB or parallel Centronics printer interface is the most common, but some can also use Ethernet or FireWire.
The most important part of a printer is the print head, which contains pins that are pressed into an ink ribbon to imprint characters on the paper (like a typewriter). Dot matrix printers were once very popular for home computers because they printed relatively fast and cheaply. Early models used 9 or 24 pins, while later ones used 12 or more pins for a more sophisticated printing system.
The output tray is another essential part of the printer, as it helps to receive the outcome of the printing process in an orderly manner. The Output Tray Extension is an additional part of the printer, which is seen in a few of the printer devices and is useful when there are large-sized sheets to be printed.
