A printer is a device that allows you to print documents. There are many different types of printers and each one has its own unique capabilities.
Laser: A laser printer uses light to alter the electrical charge on a drum, which is then transferred to paper. The drum is then rolled through a reservoir of toner. The toner adheres to the parts of the drum that are positively charged and repels the areas that are negatively charged.
Solid Ink: A solid ink printer uses a crayon-like wax that melts and then is projected onto paper. The solid ink printer was a great device but is now largely obsolete due to the availability of cheaper, faster and more efficient laser printers.
Thermal: A thermal printer uses heat to selectively melt regions of special heat-sensitive paper. This can be done in monochrome for black-and-white prints, or in a color mode to produce colored prints on paper.
Page: A page is a sheet of paper that has been folded and trimmed to its desired size. These printers adhere toner or ink onto a drum which is then transferred to the entire page in one cycle for black and white and multiple cycles for color.
Drivers are instructions that communicate how your printer should work when you print to it. Some printers come with default drivers, while others require you to install them. There are also cloud drivers that allow you to print to any printer from any computer, without having to install a driver first.
