Types of Printers

Printer is one of the most important peripheral devices that is used for replicating the data seen on the computer system onto a physical material, usually paper. This device comes in several different types including thermal, inkjet, laser, daisy wheel, dot matrix, and 3D printers. These are used for both personal and business purposes.

Despite the fact that there are many ways to get the same job done, it’s hard to imagine living without a printer. This is because the printer gives us a way to save effort by printing out copies of text documents and images that can be signed, stored, or reviewed in the real world rather than on a screen.

The most common types of printers are inkjet and laser, both of which use a toner or ink cartridge to produce prints. These are available in a wide range of colours, sizes, and speeds to meet the needs of different users. They can be connected to a host computer using either a parallel Centronics interface with 36-pin plugs or a serial port, usually USB or FireWire.

Other types of printers include dot matrix, chain and train printers, and even screen printing. These printers typically work by arranging a set of character slugs or blocks on a chain or a track that moves horizontally past the print head. In some cases, these printers can produce colors by selectively heating regions on the special heat-sensitive paper.

In addition to printing on paper, some high-end printers can also create three dimensional objects using a process called extrusion. The nozzle on the printer heats up until it liquefies and then squirts out the material in thin layers, often just 0.1 millimeter thick, as the build platform lowers. The layer bonds to the layer below it and the printer then adds another.
