Important Components of a Printer

A printer is a hardware output device that replicates the contents of a computer system on a physical medium, most commonly paper. It is connected to the system via a USB, or other wired or wireless connectivity provision. It accepts commands from the computer to print and also sends back confirmation of successful printing.

Various types of printers are available in the market to cater to the needs of different people. The most common types of printers are laser, inkjet, thermal and dot matrix printers. Some printers can also have additional capabilities like scanning, faxing and hole punching.

The most important component of a printer is the Print Head. This is used to pick up ink from the cartridges and transfer it onto the paper. The printer head is controlled by the printer driver that is installed on the system.

Another important part of the printer is the Sheet Feeder. This is used to hold the blank sheets of paper that are fed into the printer when it begins the printing process.

A 3D Printer is a special type of printer that can make three-dimensional objects. These are useful in a variety of applications, including medical and aerospace engineering, information systems and dentistry. These devices create replicas of objects that are sent to them from a computer-aided design system in a file format called STL (stereolithography). This is a cross-sectional view of the object, which is then printed layer by layer using a heat source and a UV light.
