Buying a Printer From a Local Dealer

A printer is a device that takes in data from the computer and prints it onto a medium such as paper or film. It can either be an impact printer (where the printing medium is struck) or a non-impact one (where the print head prints ink onto the media). The most common types of printers are laser, inkjet and dot matrix printers. Printers are used for a variety of purposes ranging from general home use to business-related ones, such as creating professional-looking marketing materials.

Many people choose to purchase their printers through major retailers due to the perceived convenience of being able to walk into a familiar store such as Staples or order a printer online from their favorite website. However, if you aren’t a frequent printer user or don’t have a lot of downtime costs associated with your business and would like to save money in the long run, purchasing a machine from a local dealer may be a better option for you.

Local dealers are able to build service pricing into your contract and keep cartridge prices much lower than that of major retailers, which often charge twice as much for the same cartridge. In addition, if your printer purchased from a major retailer breaks down, you could be without it for a month while it’s shipped away for repairs, while a local dealer can usually fix it the same day.

Printers can also be classified by their speed based on the number of characters they produce per minute. While early printers measured their speed in characters per second, today’s manufacturers typically measure this in pages per minute (PPM).
